Silicon Sensing announces the launch of its new low cost, precision MEMS gyro — PinPoint®
With the growing market for precision, low-cost navigation aiding and pointing systems in mind, PinPoint® was developed specifically to meet the demands for accuracy from a small, low power 3V digital gyro sensor.
One of the prime markets for PinPoint® is vehicle in-dash aiding of GPS. Many other applications will also benefit from it's 'performance density' and low cost.
Inside the all new 6x5x1.2mm gyro Silicon Sensing has integrated its VSG5 (Generation 5) balanced MEMS vibrating ring gyro technology, which gives it the class-leading bias performance compared to simple vibrating mass gyros in the same class.
The bulk micro-machined silicon MEMS ring gives PinPoint® unrivalled resistance to shock and vibration, and is sealed in a fully hermetic package. PinPoint® can be depended on to function in the most aggressive of environments.
Drawing under 4mA from a 3V supply PinPoint® can be used for most portable battery powered applications, providing new opportunities for personal and vehicle location based system developers.
The gyro is available in two package options; CRM100 (perpendicular or 'In-Plane' sensing axis) and CRM200 (parallel or 'Orthogonal' sensing axis), enabling 2D and 3D angular motion sensing on a single planar PCBA.
Analogue and digital output modes, user selectable, allow maximum flexibility for the system designer. Unlike other gyros, PinPoint® requires a minimum of peripheral circuit components, thus keeping the customer unit production cost down.
Complete versatility has been designed in allowing the user to 'tune' PinPoint® sensitivity by setting the preferred measurement range and gyro bandwidth. It's even possible to have a dual-mode operation in which the gyro measurement range can be switched 'on the fly', when using the digital output mode.
For the gyroscopes mentioned above we could also offer evaluation boards that simplify and accelerate the design process .
